Dheere Dheere Se Dil Ko Churana

I Hate IT!! This was my first reaction when I heard ‘Dheere Dheere Se”by Honey Singh. For a person who had swoon and swayed to the lilting melody of Nadeem Shravan sung in the romantic voice of Kumar Sanu, Honey Singh rendition was blasphemous. Where was the soul? Where was that passion, the yearning and the sweet shyness of the first love in the song? The song seemed flat, it could not connect to you (especially if you were brought up listening to the original).

But as they say Familiarity breeds consent (a Yoyo Singh twist). The song begins to grow on you gradually, very gradually. Somewhere the voice of Kumar Sanu begins to fade and the voice of Honey Singh begin to take over your mind space and then we are not the same.

Coming to the song, the song is quite simple, there are no hidden surprises nor does it woo you with any musical brilliance present in other composers. But what Honey Singh lacks in brilliance, he makes up for it (in spades) through his connectivity. There is something about the song that grows on you perhaps it is the monotonous intonations/playback without any noticeable changes in pitch/notes or the music that is not cacophonous or it may be the beautiful Turkey Hotel.

The hotel brings us to the video. The video or the concept is nothing new, original or unique. It is the hashed/rehashes/re-rehashed tale of shy, lonely boy attracted to and pining for a vivacious girl. What makes it pleasant to watch is the eye candy Hrithik Roshan. Speaking of Hrithik Roshan he manages to infuse the song with his trademark soulful love and yearnings that are remarkably absent in Honey Singhs Un Honey voice. Hrithik’s gestures, emotions capture the lover boy quite expertly and Sonam Kapoor is  ah, well Sonam Kapoor  - She prefers to speak through her dresses/costumes. The video is quite watchable (surprised tone) It reminded me of 90’s pop albums (I guess that is a back handed compliment since the song is from the 90’s).

Hrithik Roshan looks a darl in his suit boot avatar and he cracks it in casuals too. The only one costumes that I did not like was the hatted one, it made him look positively haggard!

The pluses of this video is definitely Turkey, Hrithik and the simple story with no frills. Hrithik and Sonam pass muster, hmm definitely an interesting pair that needs to be explored further (HINT!!!!!  Get them in a MOVIE). The minuses are Hrithik breaking out suddenly into an unexpected dance move that did not do him or the music any justice. Hrithik lip syncing Honey Singh ( My hair just turned grey when I saw him doing THAT). Ummm Can we get ANY expressions on Sonam’s face apart from that Solar blinding grin!
